IPO Glossary
Quick definitions for the terms you see on IPO GMP Track — from GMP and allotment to QIB and book building.
- IPO
- When a company sells shares to the public for the first time and lists on NSE or BSE.
- GMP
- Grey Market Premium — unofficial pre-listing price vs issue price. Not regulated; not a guarantee.
- Listing Gain
- Percentage move on listing day compared to the IPO issue price.
- Retail Investor
- Individual applying up to ₹2 lakh in the retail quota.
- HNI
- Applies for more than ₹2 lakh in the NII (non-institutional) category.
- QIB
- Institutions (mutual funds, banks, etc.) bidding in the QIB portion.
- Book Building
- Bidding within a price band; final price set by demand.
- SME IPO
- Smaller company listing on NSE Emerge or BSE SME — larger lots, thinner liquidity.
- Allotment
- Shares assigned after bidding closes. Oversubscribed retail uses a lottery.
- Subscription Status
- Times the issue was oversubscribed — e.g. 10x means ten times the shares on offer.
