IPO Glossary

Quick definitions for the terms you see on IPO GMP Track — from GMP and allotment to QIB and book building.

IPO
When a company sells shares to the public for the first time and lists on NSE or BSE.
GMP
Grey Market Premium — unofficial pre-listing price vs issue price. Not regulated; not a guarantee.
Listing Gain
Percentage move on listing day compared to the IPO issue price.
Retail Investor
Individual applying up to ₹2 lakh in the retail quota.
HNI
Applies for more than ₹2 lakh in the NII (non-institutional) category.
QIB
Institutions (mutual funds, banks, etc.) bidding in the QIB portion.
Book Building
Bidding within a price band; final price set by demand.
SME IPO
Smaller company listing on NSE Emerge or BSE SME — larger lots, thinner liquidity.
Allotment
Shares assigned after bidding closes. Oversubscribed retail uses a lottery.
Subscription Status
Times the issue was oversubscribed — e.g. 10x means ten times the shares on offer.
